Data-driven energy usage saves £275,000 for healthcare customer

The Challenge

A healthcare customer site wanted to reduce energy consumption, whilst maintaining the quality of their operations.

The largest use of energy on site was driven by a large jet system that was keeping the warehouse under temperature control.

The warehouse was holding over £2.5m worth of stock, so it was crucial that the site was correctly temperature controlled as a system failure could cause a negative effect on service to patient-facing services across the UK.

The Solution

The following actions were taken:

  • Unipart added loading airlocks, air curtains, new dock doors, and inflatable door seals to make the building as energy efficient as possible
  • Unipart’s operational excellence experts then used data analysis technology to explore where energy usage efficiency could be maximised.

Data produced from sensors placed around the warehouse found the jet system could be used in a more efficient way by only being activated at a specific time.

The Unipart experts at the site then shared their findings with the rest of the healthcare customer’s network, coaching each of the sites to manage their own jet systems in the same energy-efficient way.

The Impact

Data analysis conducted and shared across the network by Unipart now means the jet systems at the site, and the entirety of the network, are now only activated at the optimal time, resulting in a significant cost saving of £275,000 in the first 12 months.
