​Lucchini Unipart Rail Ltd (LUR) is a joint venture established in February 2015 between Italy's Lucchini RS Group and the UK's Unipart Rail Ltd.

​The partnership combines Lucchini RS’s expertise in manufacturing railway components with Unipart’s experience in supply chain management and maintenance services.

By combining these complementary strengths, LUR delivers enhanced value and comprehensive solutions to the rail industry through MRO life extension to bogies, wheelsets and gearboxes.

  • Integrated Supply Chain: LUR aims to provide comprehensive control over the supply chain for safety-critical traction system components, including wheels, axles, wheelsets, and bogies. This approach is encapsulated in their “From Furnace to Fleet” philosophy, ensuring quality and efficiency from steel production to component delivery.
  • Lifecycle Cost Solutions: The joint venture focuses on delivering technical and commercial solutions based on lifecycle cost analyses and innovation, offering value-added services to customers in the UK traction and rolling stock sector. ​

Operations and services

LUR operates from two primary sites in the UK – Manchester and Doncaster and employs over 300 people.
